Discussion:
Java or Freenet Error?

Hi!

Yesterday worked Freenet with internet connection (the first time, after I
sloved the firewall problems)

But today it seems that I have new problems:

When I start freenet, I receive the following response:

Starting Freenet now: Done

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
at freenet.support.Fields.hexToInt(Fields.java:77)
at
freenet.fs.dir.NativeFSDirectory$NWalk.load(NativeFSDirectory.java:437)
at
freenet.fs.dir.NativeFSDirectory$NWalk.<init>(NativeFSDirectory.java:320)
at freenet.fs.dir.NativeFSDirectory.<init>(NativeFSDirectory.java:719)
at freenet.node.Main.main(Main.java:564)

As I had this error, I made a Java update from 1.4.1 to 1.4.2 but it is the
same error.

My Freenet is running (or not running *g*) on Linux Suse 8.2

Anybody know where the problem can be? I made now also the freenet update but
have still the same error when I try to start freenet.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Best regards

Martin

What version of freenet (build number)? does that error kill the node?
I've seen that happen on my node but the node doesn't die from it.

Hi Brandon!

I am no longer able to access to freenet. Every time when I try to browse to
localhost:8888/ or to 127.0.0.1:8888/ the connection will be refused.

The freenet version is new. I made the installation 4 weeks ago. And today I
made an update (after I received the error).

I tried to access via Konqueror and via Mozilla (Netscape) but...

I made a shut down and restart.

The same error:

Starting Freenet now: Done

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.N ullPointerException
at freenet.support.Fields.hexToInt(Fields.java:77)
at
freenet.fs.dir.NativeFSDirectory$NWalk.load(NativeFSDirectory.java:43

320)
at freenet.fs.dir.NativeFSDirectory.<init>(NativeFSDirectory.java:719)
at freenet.node.Main.main(Main.java:564)

Should I try a new installation?

Thank you for any help!

Best regards

Actually reinstalling will probably fixor your issue, but is
uninsteresting in figuring out why it is happening.

Telling me that you have a new installation' of freenet doesn't tell
me what build of the jar you are using... The version I'm interested in
is what was displayed by the web interface when the node was running.

Please visit http://www.freenetproject.org/snapshots/ and download
either freenet-latest.jar or freenet-unstable-latest.jar and replace
your freenet.jar with it, then try starting up and let me know how it
goes.

Hi Brandon!

Thank you for your response!

Now I can start Freenet again! "happy"

Please do not ask me about the problem.

I made a linux logout from the normal user and made a root login.

Then I started freenet as root successful.

I made a freenet stop as root user.

A normal user login and started freenet as normal user.

Now I can access again to freenet.

One other question.

Is it normal that freenet us "busy"?

Thank you!

Best regards

Martin

Weird sequence to fixor it. Wonder if it was some kind of funk
permissions error or something.

Currently freenet is quite 'busy' we're working on the network
algorithms to hopefully reduce the number of requests needed to find
data and for frost to work, with luck and skill this will result in new
stable builds in the near future which will start to ease the network
congestion that is currently plaguing us.

What do you mean by that? Do you mean "busy" as in uses lots of CPU? Do
you mean, the network has a lot of content?

I don't understand.
